Privacy policy
You're about to tell a store you're planning for your own death, or your mother's. It's fair to ask what happens to that information. The short version: we see your order, not your answers.
What we collect
When you buy something. Your name, email address, billing address, and — for printed books — your shipping address. Payment card details go directly to Shopify Payments and its processor. We never see or store your full card number.
When you join the email list. Your email address, and nothing else unless you volunteer it.
When you browse. Standard analytics through Google Analytics 4: pages viewed, roughly where in the world you are, what device you're on, and which link brought you here. This is aggregate traffic data, not a file about you.
What we never collect
The planners are PDFs you fill in on your own computer or print at home. Whatever you write in them — account numbers, passwords, medical history, who gets the house — stays on your device. It is never uploaded, never transmitted to us, and we have no technical ability to read it. If our servers vanished tomorrow, your filled-in planner would be unaffected.
We also don't ask for your Social Security number, your date of birth, or your account credentials. No part of buying from us requires them, so if anything claiming to be us asks, it isn't us.
Who we share it with
Four companies, each for one job:
| Who | What they get | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | Order details, contact and billing information | Runs the store and processes payment |
| Lulu | Your name and shipping address | Prints and ships physical books. Physical orders only. |
| Kit (ConvertKit) | Your email address | Sends the newsletter and delivers free downloads |
| Google Analytics | Anonymized usage data | Tells us which pages help people |
Nobody else. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Cookies
The store uses cookies that keep your cart working and let us count visitors. You can block them in your browser; the cart is the part that will break if you do.
How long we keep it
Order records stay as long as tax and accounting rules require, currently seven years in California. Email subscribers stay until they unsubscribe. Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and it works immediately.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. California residents have these rights specifically under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Email support@retirementinorder.com and we'll respond within 45 days. We'll ask you to confirm the request came from the email address on the account, which is the only verification step involved.
Security
Payment pages are encrypted by Shopify and we never handle raw card data. No system is perfect, and anyone who tells you theirs is should worry you. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll notify you directly rather than posting a notice and hoping you find it.
Children
This store is meant for adults and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date below changes and subscribers get an email. Quiet edits to a privacy policy are a bad habit.
